Frothy Beard Tap TakeOver 06/10/2015

Wednesday Jun 10, 2015 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

fbtaptakeoverfb

*** including … Beer Infused Vegan Food ***

The bearded ones from Frothy Beard Brewery are a jealous group.  They are moving in and taking over our taps on Wednesday, June 10th, 2015 from 5:00pm to 9:00pm for our first ever tap takeover at the cafe.  We are excited as the kegs will only be spewing their Zingiber Pale Ale,  A’ndale Pale Ale, Choconaut and the Sumter Street Amber.  Michael Biondi one of the three owners and brewers will be present to answer all your hops and grains related questions between steins.  cc7And yes last time we checked he had not got caught up in all the razor shaving mail order biz that seems to be the new internet ad wave.

To get the body hoppin, we are excited to bring back Chris Compton as our special musical guest who will play from 7:00pm-9:00pm.  Chris will bring his own songs to our cafe in an ALT folksy rawking way.  K. Peterson from Free Times says this of Chris: “Compton is one of Columbia’s great, enigmatic singer-songwriters. In contrast to any number of conventional folk singers, Compton rarely relies on traditional structures or typical subject matter. Instead, melody-heavy guitar playing and a tendency toward unorthodox song structures prevail. Think Badly Drawn Boy and Harry Nilsson mixed with some indie rock band from the ’90s that you’ve never heard of.”  You can find out more about Chris here.

WANT more?  This is where it gets really exciting.  We will incorporate those beers into our food!  We will have some vegan beer cheese doused with the Jalapeno Cilantro Ale.  We will make our own vegan hot dogs steamed with the Ginger Pale Ale and then smoked (under 100 degrees).  Hot Dog choices will be:

  • The Mexicana covered with salsa, guacalmole, cashew sour cream, and beer cheese
  • The Chicagan covered with pickled cukes, peppers & onions, tomatoes, celery salt, & mustard
  • The GLC Slaw layered with BBQ slaw, onions, beer cheese, and Sumter Amber Vegan Chili

Complements will be Thai Tater Tots covered in Cashew Sour Cream, Beer Cheese, and Sweet & Spicy Chili Sauce, Jicama “Potato” Salad, Kale, Fruit, BBQ Slaw

Then there will be a dessert infused with the Chocolate Oatmeal Stout.

Pints will be $4.00 and flights $8.00 all night long and during the five o’ clock shadow time of 5-6, food will be 10% off.

Looking forward to quaffing a stein with you, whether you have a beard or not!

First Thursdays on Main 06/04/2015

Thursday Jun 4, 2015 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

firstThursdays060415

These First Thursdays on Main are coming around faster than we can blink an eye and we are happy about that.  This is the day for Columbia’s monthly art crawl and street fest that showcases the revitalized Main Street community with participation of many of the merchants from the Capital to Town Hall.

The Flat Out Strangers may need to change their name, because they are certainly no stranger to the cafe or to this first Thursday of the month street fest.  Like healthy RAW food, their music brings out in all an energy level that just can not be explained.  A four piece band of hobos crammed into the corner with dancers swinging where they can inside and out is an enviroment in Columbia, SC that would make New York City proud. Whether you can dance or not, you have got to come by and check out the grooves.  You can find out more about our special musical guest by clicking here.

All of  Main Street will be hopping in some way or another, so mark it down on your calendar and visit to see why Columbia, SC is famously hot.  You can see what all the other Main Street Merchants have in store for you here.

See the dancers and Flat Out Strangers perform “Lady Be Good” from our May, 2015 Edition of first Thursdays on Main.

Magnify Magnolias Poetry 05/18/2015

Monday May 18, 2015 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

magnifymagnolias

We are again honored to host a “Magnify Magnolias” Poetry and Music night at the cafe Monday, May 18th, 2015 from 8pm-10pm.  Poet, Debra McQueen is hosting an exciting line up that includes poet Al Black and singer/songwriter Kelvin Armstrong.

Al is taking time away from a busy schedule that includes readings at the SC Book Festival & in Union City, NC to be a part of this cafe extravaganza. Not only that, but he will be reciting and sharing his creative juices on his 63rd birthday.  On Al’s facebook page he has a living poem that grows by one word a day and will not reach full maturity until the end of the year.  It’s exciting to watch the poem grow up, but can be a little anti climatic when a single letter is the word of the day and the anticipation boils over waiting for the next day.  Below is a creative video he produced called “I Only Left For Tea“, but don’t fret cause he went to get something RAW.

Kelvin will soon be releasing his NEW
single via iTunes, Amazon, Google Plpoetry051815_2ay, and Spotify along with his music video Peaches and Cream on May 23rd!!!  So it is a pleasure to welcome him as the guest performer for Magnify Magnolias.  So just think, at the cafe you can catch him live, in action, and in the RAW before millions of other people throughout the world do!

After those performances then you can take stage and share your poetry, for it is a nice language open mic night.
Specials for the evening:
Coffee & Muffin …………….. $4.00
Wine & Spring Roll ……….. $6.00
Craft Beer & Guacamole … $7.00
Craft Draft Pint …………….. $4.00
Wine ……………………………. $6.00

Thursday May 7, 2015 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm

firstThursdays050715

It’s that time of the month again for a special Thursday, the first one of the month that earns it the First Thursdays on Main title. This is the day for Columbia’s monthly art crawl and street fest that showcases the revitalized Main Street community with participation of many of the merchants from the Capital to Town Hall.

We are excited to welcome back Noelle Brault as our guest artist.  She will be showing off her oil paintings; impressionist art that depict southern landscapes and cityscapes and whose paintings have graced the walls of the Governor’s mansion.  You might have seen her painting of the cafe hanging up in our restaurant and like First Thursdays, many of here paintings showcase the revitalized Main Street of good ole Columbia, SC.  You can learn more about Noelle by clicking here.

And what would First Thursdays be like without the gypsies of swing? So yes we got the hobos, Flat Out Strangers back as our special musical guest.  They will be playing the the type of music that will get your body grooving and dancing in the cafe and out in the streets.  You can check out these cools dudes by clicking here.

And then there is the RAW food and libations, Good Life Cafe will throw in RAW, Vegan, dairy and gluten free Flat Bread Pizza samplers while they last, delivered to you for free while you enjoy the art and the music.  You can also indulge yourself with any of our signature juice/liquor combinations, wine, and local craft beers. You can see what all the other Main Street Merchants have in store for you here.

Her creative nonfiction appeared in The Art Of Medicine In Metaphors in 2013.  She’s from San Francisco, and we are happy that she now lives in South Carolina.  You can read about an interview she did with NEON, a literary magazine here.

After Debra we are equally excited to welcome Alexander Madison Hoffman, a.k.a Pretty Feet as our guest Musician.  A little folk and a little POP to put all those that wish to do their own reciting in a relaxed state.  You can listen to some of Alexander’s music by clicking here.  30 Minutes here and 30 Minutes there … then an hour thats all for you to come up to the stage and show us your nice language stuff.  Great food and specials the entire time and its all RAW all the TIME!

Slow Food at Indie Grits 2015

Sunday Apr 19, 2015 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Slow Foods at Indie Grits 2015

Good Life Cafe is again honored to be participating in the the 5th annual Slow Food at Indie Grits “Sustainable Chefs Showcase,” potluck and party on Sunday, April 19th, from 3-6pm at 701 Whaley in Columbia, South Carolina. The Midlands’ most environmentally friendly chefs will be bringing their ‘A’ game to serve an array of  hors d’oeuvres featuring local, sustainably produced ingredients.  There will be music, South Carolina brewed beers, wine, and even a potluck contest.   Last year the RAW food lady went up against a slew of bacon and pork dishes with some rawsome tacos.  What will it be this year? You will have to come out and support the cafe to see her healthy weapons of choice.  This is a very popular event occurring towards the end of the Indie Grits Festival so get serious and Run Forest Run.
